Not a good impression

We had to fly through Beijing to get to Mongolia.  Which meant a $140 visa for an overnight stay.  We stayed at the JW Marriott which is right next to the Ritz Carlton.  The JW was the right choice, modern and sleek.  The Ritz Carlton was, well, old lady styled.  The smog in Beijing was awful.  Cannot say we saw much due to the smog.

I arranged transportation from the hotel and we were met almost plane side by an airport hostess who guided us through the airport, customs, baggage claim, then whisked us down a level to a VIP level of the airport.  That was pretty cool.  I have to say after a 14 hour flight into a foreign country that is a very helpful and appreciated thing.
