Joseph Nacchio, former CEO of Qwest Communications, is seeking a new trial. He was convicted on 19 counts of insider trading and sentenced to 6 years in prison. He was out on bail until Feb 25, 2009 while appealing his case. He lost his last appeal and now his defense team wants to appeal to the Supreme Court.
Philip Anschutz, the 31st richest person in the United States founded the company in 1996 by installing fiber optic cable along the right-of-ways owned by Southern Pacific Railroad, which he owned. Currently he holds a 17% interest in Qwest.
