Thought of the Day - Best Term

"Security Theatre" term I've heard to describe the TSA and airport screening.  We as American tax payers spend billions of dollars a year to create those interactive peformance venues we call 'screening areas' at airports.

Speaking of which, I've had a Clear pass for a while now and used it a fair amount.  What I struggle to understand is what the service actually provides in the way of enhanced security.  When I approach a Clear lane, an attendant looks at my license and my boarding pass...then they initial it....just like in a regular screening line.  Then I have to go to the little kiosks an put in my Clear card, then have my finger scanned.  By using a Clear card I have MORE screening done on me than other people do.

However, I do get a person to fetch me bins and set me up on the X-Ray machine.

"Gothic Cabinets" - not sure what those are. Let's look up some definitions

  • medieval: as if belonging to the Middle Ages; old-fashioned and unenlightened; "a medieval attitude toward dating"
  • a heavy typeface in use from 15th to 18th centuries
  • characterized by gloom and mystery and the grotesque; "gothic novels like `Frankenstein'"
  • a style of architecture developed in northern France that spread throughout Europe between the 12th and 16th centuries; characterized by slender vertical piers and counterbalancing buttresses and by vaulting and pointed arches

I looked in the window and it looked a bit like IKEA stuff.  Not sure how 'Gothic' pertains...
