Thought of the Day - To mute, or moot?
I have seen the word 'mute' used in lieu of 'moot' several times and I find it mildly (OK, severely) irritating.
Mute - unable to speak : lacking the power of speech
Moot - deprived of practical significance : made abstract or purely academic
Mute - a person who cannot or does not speak
Not so similar...
All you have to do is go to Google and type 'Define mute' and you'll get the definition. Helpful and quick if you're unsure of a words meaning.
Oh, I found this while digging around today. Pretty cool little tool. Not sure I'd subscribe now. Perhaps if I was a student, a writer, or just super retentive about my language usage....www.visualthesaurus.com
