Who not to use for market timing of the retail sector

I was doing some research looking for new investments and I read a long article in the Dec 25, 2006 issue of Fortune about a woman (Telsey) who is supposed to be a major retail whiz.  She had 9 stocks that she felt had the 'most near-term promise'.  On whim I looked them all up.  Now I know why she runs an advisory company and not a hedge fund.  Telsey Advisory Group.

Looks like the overall portfolio was saved solely by Blue Nile.  They are an interesting company.  I haven't purchased any diamonds lately but the premise is an approximate 50% savings vs. the local retailers.  If that's true, why the heck do people shop those places.  And boy do most of them have the worst advertising ever or what.
